Tiscali

Tiscali is a Fournisseur of access to Internet (FAI) Italian created by Renato Soru in Sardinia. It was one of the suppliers of access to Internet in France. It is an important FAI in other countries.

The name of Tiscali refers in the name of a cave and of important a Nuraghe, in Sardinia, in the Province of Nuoro.

History

Tiscali started as simple operator telecom in Sardinia in 1997 then widened in the remainder of the Italy. The company then proceeded to a wave of repurchases, knowing notoriety gradually.

In 2001, Tiscali makes in particular the acquisition of the French companies World Online, Liberty Surf, Infonie, Freesbee, then Intercall. In this Tiscali manner succeeded in being established in Austria, in Belgium (repurchase of Yucom in 2001), in Czech Republic, with the Denmark, in Spain, France, Germany, Italy, with the Netherlands, in Norway, Sweden, Suisse, with the the United Kingdom and in South Africa.

During following years, Tiscali created CHOCK ( Tiscali International Network ) to develop its own network of Fiberoptic in Europe and in particular in France.

Following this development thanks to its establishment on the market of the Internet, Tiscali encounters then major financial problems: the company resells its subsidiary companies as quickly as it bought them.

Although France was a strategic commercial pole for the Tiscali group, this last decides to separate from it by yielding it to the group Telecom Italia in April 2005 (marketed under the name of Alice). In Belgium, it resells its subsidiary company with Scarlet in December 2004.

After having repurchased the credits of Tiscali (Liberty Surfing Group) in France in April 2005, Telecom Italia (Alice) could reinforce its activity of FAI in France under the mark Alice ADSL.

It is an aubaine for Telecom Italia which could reinforce its network of Fiberoptic by the mediation of the preexistent network, Tiscali International Network, and of the wallet of subscribers of Tiscali France. The mark Tiscali perdure all the same until in September 2005 when tiscali become Alice ADSL proposes her services Triple play (ADSL, Téléphone, Télévision) at the price of 29,95 € per month.
