Tipitaka
The Tipitaka (in Sanskrit Tripitaka: sorting = three, pitaka = basket) or Three baskets is the Buddhist gun pāli (the name of this language being normally reserved to this text, and the Magadhi being reserved for any other use of the language). It is about a very vast compilation of texts, founders of the Buddhist doctrines Theravâda. This name would come owing to the fact that the old texts, written on sheets of palm, would have been arranged in baskets. They are divided into 3 sections:

The Vinaya Pitaka
The discipline. This " corbeille" count each monastic rule and into present the history, the why of creation. The Vinaya Pitaka contient :
- Suttavibhanga
- Mahavagga
- Cullavagga
- Parivara
The Sutta Pitaka
The known as ones of the Buddha. This basket counts the words allotted to the Bouddha and said to be recited by Ananda after its death, then transmitted word of mount during 400 to 500 years before being transcribed on paper. However, some will sûtra S bring back the known as ones and acts of faithful very recognized, like Sariputta. Sutta Pitaka is divided into five sections called Nikaya S:
- the Digha Nikaya, the long discourses , comprising 34 suttas ;
- the Majjhima Nikaya, the speech average length comprising 152 suttas gathered into 5 sections ;
- the Samyutta Nikaya, the grouped speeches or connected , grouped in 5 sections from 10 to 15 suttas chacune ;
- the Anguttara Nikaya, the speech of the later factors or numerical speeches , classified in 11 groups, the first bearing one on a simple subject, the second on a double subject, the third on a triple subject, and so on until 11 ;
- the Khuddaka Nikāya, small speeches or short books , composed of 9 books among which well-known texts such as the Dhammapada are, the Sutta Nipata and the Udana.
The Abhidhamma Pitaka
While the Dharma is the doctrines (although the word means also " chose"), the Abhidhamma or " with the top of the doctrine" is the whole of the analytical and psychological comments of the teaching of the Buddha. This basket contains 7 parties :
- Dhammasangani
- Vibhanga
- Dhatukatha
- Puggalapaññatti
- Kathavatthu
- Yamaka
- Paṭṭhāna
The term Tripitaka can also indicate in a broader way any Buddhist gun: Chinese Tripitaka, Japanese Tripitaka etc.
