Tinqueux
Tinqueux is a common Frenchwoman of more than 10.000 inhabitants, located in the department of the Marne and the area Champagne-Ardenne. It belongs to the community of agglomeration Rheims Métropole. Its inhabitants are called the Aquatintiens (a Aquatintien , a Aquatintienne ). The surrounding cities are: Rheims, Saint-Brice-Courcelles, Bezannes, Elms and Thillois.

History
Toponymy
Historical toponymy
The place would have been named aquaticum during the Antiquité, which means “wet place literally”, because of its marshy grounds. Other historians suppose the denominations stans aquosa (remains wet) or tinkled aqua (coloured water, dyeings). Nowadays, only the denomination of the inhabitants remains still close to the term of origin, time and the Dialecte S having gradually transformed the name of the city into Taincol (1198), Tainqueue (1225), Taincqueulx (1570) and finally Tinqueux .
Contemporary toponymy
Nowadays, one also uses the Abréviation TQX to indicate the city, but only for the writing. Moreover, because of a certain lack of activity, the inhabitants call ironically the city: Tinqueux City Beach or Tinqueux City Beach . The proximity with the town of Rheims, largely more important in term of population and size, brings to regard Tinqueux as a district of Rheims. Thus, certain companies and organizations are indicated as being located at Rheims - Tinqueux .
Chronology
The public records mention Tinqueux for the first time into 975, the commune belonged to the Manasses lord.
Neolithic era
The first traces of human occupation in Tinqueux go up at the Neolithic age , the site was used then as cemetery. This was discovered at the time of preventive excavations during the construction of the district Champ Paveau in the Eighties.
Antiquity
During the time Gallo-Roman, the city is only one small regrouping of farms on the Roman way prolonging the East-West axis ( Decumanus ) of the large city close to Durocortorum (Rheims).
The Middle Ages and modern time
To XIIe century Tinqueux belongs to the count de Champagne, then in 1789, with the Saint-Denis abbey of Rheims. After the French revolution, the city depends on the canton of Saint-Brice, in the department of the Marne. Located in edge of Rheims, the city benefits from the effects of the Industrial revolution of second half of the XIXe century with the installation of industries.
Contemporary time
The First World War (1914-1918) reduced the city in ruins. During the Interval wars (1918-1939), the rebuilding allows a modernization of the infrastructures: drinking water network, cleansing, alignment, construction of the town hall, the Saint-Pierre church and four allotments. After the Second world war (1939-1945), Tinqueux will profit from the dash of one second rebuilding, developing quickly around its new residential districts. Currently, Tinqueux is the 4th more big city of the Marne.
Twinnings

- the signature of the contract of twinning took place on October 1st, 1966 with Leimen, then in Tinqueux on June 3rd, 1967. In 1969, the town of Leimen baptized a street in the name of Tinqueux Allee . In answer, the town of Tinqueux baptized its new nursery school Leimen . This school was closed besides in 2004 for demographic reason. Each year, one of the two cities accommodates by alternation the days of the friendship which bring together approximately 300 people.
- In 1986, the concert with Myslenice of the folk group aquatintien Krakowiacy mark the beginning of profitable relations between the two cities. In 2005, the concert of the choral society of Valley-to-Muire at the House of the culture of Myslenice, will precede by little the delegation aquatintienne charged with the signature with the contract with twinning. The gone of Polish Christmas of Tinqueux, created in 1995, takes from now on all its direction.
Armorial bearings
Old armorial bearings
Even if it is not used any more by the municipal services, it is about the historical emblem of the city. These armorial bearings are still visible by places, in particular on the old plates of streets. The grooves framing the name of the commune symbolize the membership of the department of the Marne. The plant on the left is a branch of Orme, a tree formerly very present in the landscape aquatintien. The keys on the right symbolizes those of the church Saint-Pierre de Tinqueux, one of the oldest buildings of the city. The three central arrows as well as the two stylized aqueous zones point out the foundation of the city, built on marshy grounds.
Modern logotype
The current logotype is a geometrical unit abstracted having for objective to develop the assets of the city. In spite of the efforts of the municipality to impose it, the inhabitants always prefer the old armorial bearings of the city to him.

Allotments
The suburban zones of the city form a whole of microphone-districts, a kind of patchwork of architectures of the Eighties at our days, which makes of Tinqueux a quoted museum of modern residential architecture , if it were. Green areas
The city takes part in the Concours of the cities and flowered villages: in 2000, in 2001, in 2003. Tinqueux counts 54 hectares of green areas, that is to say more than 10% of its total surface area. They are parks, gardens, arranged big spaces, islands of greenery disseminated in the allotments. There exist 5 parks: the park Andre Bridoux (0.25 ha, 1975), the park of the Cross Rope-maker , the park of Muire (14 ha), the park of the Field Paveau (5 ha, 1986) and the park of the Cure of Air .

Economy
In the second part of the XXe century, the urbanization and the construction of a4 highway allowed a major economic development. The market-gardening activity, which was historically dominant, undergoes a decline with the profit of the industrial activities, commercial and hotel. There exist four industrial parks: Mill-in-the Ecaille, road of Soissons, Mount-Saint-Pierre and Champ Paveau.

Monuments

Tourist tours
The city was selected by the Departmental committee of tourism of the Marne to belong to two of the tourist Routes of the Champagne : massive circuit of St-Thierry, circuit Montagne de Reims. Tinqueux is also crossed by the Voie of Freedom since the release of the city, on August 30th, 1944. A circuit flowered was also set up by the municipality for the walkers.
