Tinogasta

Tinogasta is a city of the west of the province Argentine of Catamarca, chief town of the Département of Tinogasta, built on Right Bank of Río Abaucán .

Situation

The geographical coordinates of the city are. Its altitude is of 1  255 meters.

The city is to 280 km of the provincial capital, San Fernando del Valle de Catamarca. It is easily accessible by the trunk road 60, which connects it to Córdoba, to the center country. In the other direction (towards the North-West), this road connects the city to the collar Paso of San Francisco (4  748 meters) and continues with the Chile in direction of the town of Copiapó close to the Chilean ports of the Pacific Ocean. The distance between Tinogasta and the Paso of San Francisco are of 250 kilometers. That between the collar and Copiapó is of 269 km.

Population

The city had 14  500 inhabitants with the census of 2001. Its name comes to him from the language Kakan E: tino "rencontre" , and gasta " ville".

Tinogasta is a tourist site par excellence. It is an open door towards the high mountain. One finds there museums archaeological.

The base of the local economy is the agriculture, whose principal product is the wine.
