Tinku

The tinku is a ritual battle (Lutte similar to the Judo and the Boxe), which proceeds annually in several villages of the high plateaus of Bolivia. The more one counts deaths, the more the tinkus are considered been successful, because the blood of the combatants is regarded as an offering for the Pachamama, the ground mother. The natives believe that, if there are no deaths, Pachamama will not have enough food, and, consequently, harvests will be of less quality. The unmarried women benefit from this festival to find a husband; the tinku term means 'fight 'and “brawls”, but also “meets in love”.
