Tindfjallajökull

The Glacier Tindfjallajökull measures only 19 km ² and it is consequently one of the smallest glaciers of the Iceland. In addition, it is rather known because of its position close to the large glacier Mýrdalsjökull and to the beautiful valley to Þórsmörk.

The Tindfjöll are the ic mountain Volcan under the cap of the glacier. Their name comes from their peaks which surmount the glacier ( tindar = peaks). The last eruption, which was characterized by pyroclastic castings, took place 52.000 years ago. Of near, one can see large a Caldeira.
