Amadou Toumani Touré is a politician Mali in, president of the Republic of Mali since the June 8th 2002. It was born the November 4th 1948 with Mopti (Mali)
Biography
Amadou Toumani Touré was born on November 4th, 1948 in Mopti where he attends the fundamental school. Between 1966 and 1969, it is registered at secondary teacher training school of Badalabougou with Bamako to become teacher.Finally, it integrates the Armée while entering into the school interarmes with Kati. Within the body of the parachutists, it climbs the levels quickly. After several training courses in the USSR and France, it becomes Commander commandos parachutists in 1984.
In March 1991, after the popular demonstrations repressed in blood, it takes part in the coup d'etat against Moussa Traoré and will assume the chairmanship of the Comité of transition for Safety from the people and will provide the function of Head of State during the democratic transition .
It organizes the national conference (which proceeded July 29th with the August 12th 1991), then legislative elections and presidential in 1992. At the conclusion of these elections, it gives the capacity to the new president elected Alpha Oumar Konaré. It then is called the soldier of the democracy .
He founds and directs a foundation for childhood.
In June 2001, he is the special correspondent of the General secretary of the United Nations, Kofi Annan, in Central African Republic, after a coup d'etat missed against Angel-Felix Patassé.
In September 2001, he asks and obtains his setting in early withdrawal of the army. He decides to launch out in the political life by presenting his candidature for the presidential election. He is elected president of Mali at the time of the presidential election in May 2002, with 64,35% of the voices to the second turn. Its adversary Soumaïla Cissé, former minister, obtains 35,65% of the voices.
Its presidency is rather atypical, it does not belong to any political party and its government gathers all the parties of the country. At the time of its election in 2002, it names Ahmed Mohamed Ag Hamani like Prime Minister. This one resigns the April 28th 2004 and is replaced by Ousmane Issoufi Maïga.

Candidate with the presidential election of 2007
Amadou Toumani Touré announced to its candidature for the presidential election Malian of 2007 during a displacement with Nioro of the Sahel the 27 March 2007.Supported by many political parties, of which 14 are gathered on the initiative of the Alliance for the democracy with the African Mali-Party for solidarity and justice (Adéma/Pasj) and of the Union for the republic and the democracy (URD), within Alliance for the democracy and progress (ADP) but also by the movement citizen and several associations, the outgoing president centered its countryside on its assessment which it describes as positive, on its model of governorship based on the consensus and a “program for economic development and social” around 9 priorities: the revival of the public action democracy governorship; more an economic strong growth with the key a growth rate from at least 7% per annum; the development of the private sector; that of human resources; the employment of the young people; a greater implication of the women in the development; the support for the cultural initiatives and the sport; the participation of the Malians of the outside in the development of the country and institution of a more aggressive diplomacy. At the time of a meeting with Koulikoro, he announced a programme of recruiting of 50.000 young people in the public office.
Its slogan of countryside east “for Mali which gains”. Its partisans wishing his victory with the first turn diffused the Takokélen slogan which in Bambara means literally “taken single”. Its adversaries, gathered in particular within the Face for the democracy and republic (FDR) show them to use the means of the State to make countryside. He also shows the president and the government of favoritism for example in the attribution of the social housing and regret of the frauds at the time of the poll of April 29th.
Amadou Toumani Touré was re-elected president on April 29th, 2007 dice the first turn. It obtained 71,20% of the votes, while its main competitor, Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta, collected only 19,15% and, like the other candidates of the opposition brought together within the Front for the démoctratie and the republic , question the results because of frauds.
