Timeform
Timeform is a founded British publication in 1948, devoted to the horse-races.
Each year, Timeform publishes classifications, allotting to the horses a " valeur" , or Rating, following many criteria. The rating is supposed to quantify the quality of the horse - the more the rating is raised, the more the horse is regarded as talented. The winner of a race of Groupe 1 can claim to obtain a rating from at least 115, but rare are those which atteingent 130 In general.
, the ratings correspond to the following values:
- 140 and more - exceptional Horse
- 135-140: Champion
- 130-135 - Large winner of Group 1
- 125-129 - Winner of group 1 means
- 115-120 - Winner of group 2
- 110-115 - Winner of group 3
- 100-105 - Winner of listed race
In 2006, it is the French Hurricane Run who was appreciated the most by Timeform, with a rating of 134. Best the 3 years is Dylan Thomas, with dimensions to 129.
This classification is by nature prone to guarantee. It happens that horses are underestimated or on the contrary overestimated. One will note thus that Nijinsky received a rating of 138 only, one score well in-on this side actual value of this horse which one often considers, with Sea Bird, like the best European horse of the post-war period. Contrary, one can estimate that the score of 140 obtained by Vaguely Noble is exaggerated, just as the 139 of the sprinter Pappa Fourway . Or to be astonished by the absence of champions such as Miesque or Divine Proportions. It should be noticed however that Timeform a long time evaluated in priority the English horses.
One will of course note the absence of the great names of the American races: the notation of the non-European horses by Timeform is effect recent. At the United States, another system of value was developed in 1975 by the journalist Andrew Beyer: Beyer Speed Appears, based primarily on the stopwatches. It is necessary to add approximately 12 to him to 14 points to find an equivalence with the rating of Timeform.
Timeform does not have the monopoly of the ratings. Each year, IFHA, " International Federation off Horseracing Authorities" , joins together a committee of international handicapeurs to establish an official classification. (see FIAH).
