Tilted plan of Ronquières
The tilted Plan of Ronquières is a Ship lift of Belgium which is located on the Canal Brussels-Charleroi in Walloon region in the Province of Hainaut and which was built in 1968.
Description
The tilted plan of Ronquières compensates for a unevenness of 68 m on: 1432 m length. It consists of two gigantic vats assembled on rails (mobile hoppers). Each vat is 91 m long and 12 m broad and can contain a height of water from 3 to 3,70 Mr. a Péniche of: 1350 tons, or several Boat X of smaller tonnage, can penetrate there via a lock placed at the entry. A lock is also at the exit.Then, each vat is tractor drawn by 8 cable S actuated by the coupling of a Treuil and a Contrepoids of: 5200 tons. It is what allows an independent operation for each vat.
Thus, to traverse these: 1432 m which separate the two levels, the vat have a speed of 1,20 m/s. This course thus lasts approximately 45 minutes.
