Tigzirt (Berber “small island” in ) is a coastal town of Kabylie (Algérie) being located at 125 km in the east of Algiers and at one hour of road of Tizi-ouzou, Chef-lieu of the Wilaya.

The commune of Tigzirt of a surface of 45 km ² is limited to north by the Mediterranean, to the east by the commune of Iflissen, to the west by the commune of Mizrana and finally to the south by the commune of Makouda and that of Boudjima.

The major tourist asset of Tigzirt is undoubtedly the beauty of its landscapes, most famous of the latter is the small island being with a few tens of meters of the old port and which gave its name to the city. The city has also other wonders of which ruins Roman are because Tigzirt is founded on the Southern part of an old called Roman city Iomnium.

It is supposed that the town of Iomnium would have been built between 145 and 147 av. J. - C. At that time the city was made up only of one very small port and a barracks.

To the 3rd century, the emperor Berber Romain of origin , Severe Septime, entrusted to Julius Felix, notable of current the Dellys, constructions related to the urban expansion. This extension starts with the construction of a temple, which will cause to attract many inhabitants.
