The cingalais (or Singhalese or singhalais , name local: සිංහල / siṃhala ) is a Langue pertaining to the Indo-Aryan group of the family of the Indo-European Langues. He is spoken with the Sri-Lanka, where he has the statute of official language, by approximately 70% about the population about the country. Singhalais is also spoken by Sri Lankian communities installed in the Middle East, in Australia, Europe (Great Britain, France, Italy) and in North America. The full number of speakers of singhalais is evaluated to 10 million.

Singhalais initially borrowed words from the Pâli, the Sanskrit and the Tamoul, then, as from the 16th century, with the Portuguese, the Dutch and the English.

The first texts singhalais some go back to the 10th century.
