Tiger Stadium (Strait)
The Tiger Stadium (before Navin Field , Briggs Stadium then called The Corner ) is a stage of Baseball located in the historical quarters of Corktown at Détroit, with the Michigan.
It was the residence of the Tigers de Detroit of MLB during almost a century before their displacement in new the Comerica Park in 2000. The Lions of Strait of NFL were there also tenants between 1938 and 1974. The stage was declared State off Michigan Historic Site (Historic site of the state of the Michigan) in 1975 and is classified among the National Register off Historic Places since 1989. But, its demolition is programmed for 2008. The Tiger Stadium is sometimes called " The Corner" because of its site to the intersection of Michigan Which occurred and Trumbull Boulevard. Its capacity is of 52.416 places.
History
Park simpleton
In 1895, the owner of Tigers, George Vanderbeck, made build a new stage of baseball to the corner of the avenues of Michigan and of Trumbull, the Bennett Park. The stage had a capacity of 5.000 places gathered in a platform out of wooden and it was inaugurated in 1896. Its name comes from the player Charlie Bennett.
20th century
In 1911, the new owner of Tigers, Frank Navin, ordered the erection of a new stage out of steel and concrete of 23.000 places on the site of Bennett Park and his 5.000 places. The April 20th 1912, Navin Field is at the same time open as the Fenway Park of Boston.In 1993, $8 million USD in the restorations was completed in Tiger Stadium, including the construction of a Food-court called Tiger Plaza.
21e century
The demolition of the stage is planned for September 2008.
