Tigellin

Caius Ofonius Tigellinus , of obscure origin, had been banished in 39 by Caligula, under the charge of adultery with Agrippine the young person and Livilla. He was recalled of exile by Claude in 41. Installed like rich person stockbreeder of racehorses, it succeeds in becoming a close relation of Néron, impassioned equestrian competitions, which named it Préfet of the court in 62 with Faenius Rufus, to replace late the Sextus Afranius Burrus.

In 65, Tigellin took an active part in the repression of the Conjuration of Rammer against Néron. In reward, Néron granted the triumphal ornaments to him.

Tigellin had to release Néron in June 68 at the time of the proclamation of Galba by the Senate, because his/her colleague prefect of the court Nymphidius Sabinus had corrupted the Praetorian by his promises so that they support Galba.

On its arrival in Rome, Galba relieved Tigellin of its post of prefect of the court and replaced it by Cornélius Laco.

Othon, near to Néron, succeeded Galba in January 69. As of its come to power, it obliged Tigellin to commit suicide, to have betrayed Néron.
