Tifariti

Tifariti is a village of the the Western Sahara under control of the Front Polisario. For the Morocco, it is a rural district raising administratively of the province of Smara. It is located between this old spiritual capital of the Sahara and stronghold of the Sheik My El Aïnin (50 km) and the Algerian city of Tindouf (90 km).

Tifariti was a city of: 7000 inhabitants in 1975; those gave up it in 1976 during the Moroccan bombardments. The city then served as place-strong and basic soldier for the two adversaries at various stages of the war of 1976-1991. It is today largely in ruins. The Polisario face made share at the time of the festivities marking the thirty-second birthday of its creation, its intention to build in Tifariti the seat which will shelter the future Parliament of the RASD.
