The string is a kind of cord fine consisted of several bits and intended to attach and pack all kinds of objects in the fields domestic or professional.

Contrary to the case of the cord, the wire S constituting the string neither are twisted, nor braided.

It in particular was very much used in Agriculture at the time of the self-binders to attach the sheaves of Céréale S and is still to bind the bundles of hay and of Paille.

The string was in the beginning manufactured using fiber S vegetable, in particular the hemp, the Coton, the Jute, the Raphia and the Sisal. Nowadays one employs synthetic fibers more and more, in particular the Polypropylène which offers a much higher mechanical resistance.

One uses also the internal bark of the Tilleul, called " teille" or " tille" , to make string and cord of a great quality.
