Tidal wave in the Netherlands in 1134

The Raz-de-marée occurred in 1134 with the Netherlands was the first great tidal wave since that of 1014. It touched primarily the south-west of the current Netherlands.

This tidal wave had several consequences:

  • the enlarging of the Split S of the Zealand; consequently, the influence of the the North Sea in this area developed and it penetrated further in the grounds. Certain sources mention that these is the tidal wave which modified the Zealand in Archipel.
  • the creation of the Zwin
  • the disappearance of the Dune S close to Monster and Naaldwijk, in the south of $the Hague.
