Tiar

The Tiar or African Tarot or Mexican Tarot (according to the dires of certain dissidents) is a Card deck being played with a play of tarot.

Charts

  • charts of play : they are the 22 assets. The value of the chart is the number indicated above safe for the Buffoon whose value is freely selected by the player who holds it.

  • charts of score : the other charts are sorted by color and symbol, the whole having to form a heap in which the charts are arranged by order ascending: the king being thus at the top of the heap and the ace all in bottom.
Each player thus has his own heap which it chose beforehand.

The principle of the play

Tiar is played four players. It can be however played three even two players but the play loses all its interest.

Tiar is at the same time a Game of chance and a Strategy game. Indeed, the charts are distributed by chance but the contracts and the part require reflection.

The players commit themselves only reaching a certain number of folds while playing against their adversaries. There is no team but alliances can be easily concluded or broken during the play.

Distribution

Before the first distribution, the charts of play are spread out hidden side, and each player draws a chart randomly. The smallest chart indicates the croupier . In the event of equality, one withdraws two other charts until a player gains.

The croupier distributes the charts one by one, in the contrary direction of the needles of a watch while starting with the player who is thus on his left. In the event of misdeal, the croupier redistributes. Before each handle, the croupier mixes all the charts of play and nobody crosses.

The croupier distributes during a complete tiar .

A tiar

A tiar is a term which indicates a part which lasts several handles.

The play cuts out indeed in six handles:

  • Preum' S : each player plays in hand with five charts of play.

  • Deum' S : each player plays in hand with four charts of play.
  • Treum' S : each player plays in hand with three charts of play.
  • Queum' S : each player plays in hand with two charts of play.
  • Quim' S : each player plays in hand with a chart of play.
  • Seum' S : each player plays in hand with a chart of play to the difference which he does not see his chart. N the other hand, he sees the charts of his adversaries and must announce his fold in function.

If a person did not true herself to the ace, one starts again a tiar and the new croupier is the player with the left of old.

Contracts

  • Once the distributed charts, each player takes note of his play. The player placed on the left of the croupier speaks the first and fact his advertisement. The word thus passes to its neighbor of left and so on to the croupier who thus speaks in the last.

The announced folds lie between zero and the number of charts in hand according to the various sleeves. Thus, at the time of Preum' S, nobody has the right to make an advertisement of six. In any event, that would be suicide because impossible and that would lead obligatorily the advertiser to lose at the end of this sleeve.

The croupier with the best position because, according to the number of folds announced by the other players, it can either make a contract and thus the sum of the folds is equal to the number of charts in hand, or to make a contract where the sum of the folds is lower or higher than the number of charts in hand. In this last case, it is obliged that a player loses.

An alternative prohibited that the sum of the advertisements is equal to the number of charts. Example: With the first turn , if the 3 first advertisements are equal to 4 the last could be only 0 or 2, if the sum makes 5 the last advertisement will have obligatorily to be 1, and if the sum is already higher than 5 then the last advertisement can be anything.

  • How much points the player does it have to realize to gain its contract? That depends only on the number of the value of its assets. If the player has strong charts (for example: 18,20, Bouffon) it is preferable that it announces many folds and conversely if he has assets of low values (for example: 2,5 or 11).

  • If the player fills his contract, if it gains the number of announced folds, it gains. In the contrary case, it loses and is trued of a chart of score which it places under its heap.

End of part

The part is completed when a player trues himself to the ace. Gaining is then that which with the strongest chart at the top of its heap. In the event of equality, it is the player nearest to the croupier on the basis of his line which gains.

Strategy and the Councils

Drowning

In Tiar, the goal is not inevitably to make so that the player makes his folds quietly. Indeed, it is there that the strategy intervenes because a player can try to make of it run others. This method is called the drowning because the adversaries which are made there take true many charts and go down quickly in their heap.

Example

  • a player has just cut down a strong chart to make its folds, a player B can, if he has a stronger chart, gain the folds for itself, running player A.

  • a player having the Buffoon can announce very strong folds or very weak and thus to have certain controls on the play while choosing that the chart is one 22 or one 0.

  • If the sum of the folds null or is raised, the last player can announce a number of contracts which makes a désésquilibre between the number more and that of the charts in hand.

Safety

There exist several situations where a player can be sure to make his fold or not to be made drown.

  • If the players who follow finished their contract or made an advertisement of zero, the player can then pose his master card without having of risk to be made drown.

  • It is not vain, during a sleeve, to memorize the charts which fall in order to see whether the charts in hand are strongest remaining. So the risks of drownings or not to fill the contracts are almost null.

  • Of alliances between players can be last in order not to be made drown or for precisely running one or more adversaries.
