Threshold of Poitou
The Seuil of Poitou is the place where meet two sedimentary basins, the Paris basin (north-eastern) and the Aquitanian Bassin (south-western), also separating two old geological solid masses, the Armorican Massif (north-western) of the Massif Central (south-eastern).
Located at the south-west of Poitiers, it marks the Watershed between the basin of the the Loire, that of the Charente and that of the Niort Sèvre as well as a line of climate change. Its maximum altitude is of 190 meters to the Horst of Champagne-Saint-Hilaire.
Strategic crossing point, the threshold of Poitou was the place of many battles.
