In Mathematical, the three major problems of Antiquity , posed by mathematicians of the ancient Greece, are problems which were solved only with the development of the Algèbre. They are regarded as the starting point of research which made it possible to develop to a significant degree the mathematical corpus.

It is:

  1. Duplication of the cube: Using are a rule and of a compass, possible to build a double cube of volume?
  2. Quadrature of the circle: Using are a rule and of a compass, possible to build a square whose surface equalizes that of a disc?
  3. Trisection of the angle: Using are a rule and of a compass, possible to divide in three equal parts any angle?

To this list of problems, certain authors add the construction of the regular polygons to the rule and the compass. This problem will be completely solved by the Théorème of Gauss-Wantzel.
