A threading consists of one or more helicoid grooves on cylindrical surface.

More precisely, the threading term is employed only when the nets are outside. If the nets are inside, such as for example a hole, it is about Taraudage. The threading term can also indicate the operation (machining) or the whole of the nets.

Type of net

There exists several type of threading. The choice is done according to several criteria:
  • manufacture,
  • resistance,
  • obstruction.

Metric net ISO

Trapezoidal metric net

The trapezoidal profile is used for the transmission of significant efforts.

Round net

Representations

The net is a machining presenting of the edge S. These edges have a form Hélicoïdal E, if one wants to make a “realistic” representation, it is thus necessary to raise the question of the representation of the propeller.

In the simple case of a Perspective sight of profile without , the propeller is projected like a Sinusoïde. One frequently replaces the sinusoid by a feature in zigzag. The other point of view gives more complex curves.

In technical design, one does not represent in general threading, but one schematizes it by a continuous fine feature, to see threaded Tige > Representation in draftsmanship.
