Thrace

The Thrace (in Greek old Θρᾴκη/ Thrákê , in Bulgarian Тракия/ Trakija , in Turkish Trakya ) indicates an area of the Balkan Peninsula divided today between the Greece, the Bulgaria and the Turkey; it owes its name with the Thraces, the Indo-European tribe which occupied the area in the Antiquité.

According to the Greek Mythology, the god Dionysos and the hero Orphée of it are originating.

History

Various kingdoms thraces shared the domination of this area, whose extent varied considerably. They fell gradually under the cut from the Macedonians then Romains. The province of Thrace was thus created in 46 a. J. - C. when the last independent thrace kingdom was annexed by the Romans, with died of the king Roemetalkès III.

Thrace was then set up in Diocèse by Dioclétien in its administrative reorganization of the Empire.
