Thousand Regretz

Thousand Regretz is a polyphonic song of the free-Flemish Renaissance whose text was put in music by several type-setters, of which Nicolas Gombert and especially Josquin Desprez. The version of Josquin being most famous, as much today than at the 16th century. The song Thousand Regretz (of Josquin) inspired a mass with Cristobal de Morales, the Missa " Thousand Regretz" . Thousand Regretz was also one of preferred works of the emperor Charles Quint.

In modern French: Thousand regrets to give up you,/ And to untie your bonds in love,/ I test such a so painful sufferings and sorrow,/ That one will see me soon finishing my days. /
