Biography
Thor was one of the founders and pillars of the team of the Vengeurs. It is a particular superman in the direction where he is at the same time god (thus very powerful) and man, under the features of its alter-ego, Dr. Donald Blake. It is his/her father Odin itself which made it become simple mortal, to teach him humility and to prepare it in Ragnarök (see below).
The human misadventure of Thor, Gift Blake, is first of all unconscious of its last divinity. It however finds part of its divine memory and its capacities by discovering its Mjolnir hammer. Don Blake must then reconcile its existence of talented doctor but disabled person with that of surpuissant hero, while trying to conquer the heart of its assistant Jane Foster. It joined in this context the team of the avengers at the time of an intrigue warped by his Loki brother, and becomes the most powerful member about it after the departure of Hulk.
When Thor learns the existence from Asgard, the series takes another turning: Thor from now on is divided between its two fatherlands; so on ground it fights super-unpleasant such Absorbing Man, it faces on Asgard of the creatures resulting from various mythologies or is in charge of searches of cosmic width. Moreover, Thor must regularly choose between the protection of Midgard, the Earth, and its allegiance towards Asgard. These hesitations cause the anger of Odin regularly and are generally causes of exile or deprivation of divine capacities. Thor, by its human share (incarnated successively by Gift Blake, Sigurd Jarson, Eric Masterton and Jake Olson), is opposed on several occasions to his/her father, whose plans appear often cold to him and cruel.
This regular diagram changes at the time of dead of Odin. Thor is then invested quasi-omnipotent capacities of his/her father and goes up on the throne of Asgard, to be separated shortly after from its human double. One of the first measurements of Thor at the time of this Reign, announced by Odin and Zarkko, traveller temporal, like catastrophic for the human ones, is to move Asgard on Earth and to develop a new religion devoted to the gods of Asgard. The increasing intervention of the asgardiens in the daily life of human causes at the same time an enthusiasm growing of the crowd and the concern of the governments and religious leaders. A muscular intervention of Thor in Eastern Europe signs the rupture between the Scandinavian god and his allies passed, Iron Man and Captain America. A union of the governments and representatives of the Church then decide elimination of the asgardiens. A priest attracts Thor with far from Asgard, and starts on his arrival an atomic explosion intended to destroy it. At the same time, Asgard is destroyed and fall on New York. Thor escapes the explosion however and assists from the asgardiens. When Jake Olson tries to be opposed to him by empoignant Mjolnir, Thor destroys of a flash its human half. When it tries to take again Mjolnir, it cannot however raise it - only those which of it are worthy can use Mjolnir. Thor then lets burst its anger and, allied in Loki and Amora the Enchanter, his wife, conquers little by little the Earth. This Reign of the gods asgardiens on Earth is however cancelled by the arrival of Thialfi on the News Asgard, several decades after the fall of Asgard. The revolt of Thialfi, of downward of Wanda Maximoff, the Red Witch, and of the son of Thor end up opening the eyes of the sovereign asgardien. This one, at the time of a voyage in the past, prevents Thor from killing Jack Olson and joins together its divine share and its share human. Thor then agrees to withdraw Earth and brings back Asgard in its point of origin, whereas Loki prepares to unchain Ragnarök on its compatriots.
Ragnarok, or the Death of Thor
Ragnarök is not an end, but a cycle. The Universe of the Adzes dies and reappears unceasingly, nourishing powerful mysterious beings, well above the gods Vikings. To avoid that, Thor decides to put an end itself to the Asgardien universe, thus destroying any thing asgardienne, ground, beings and objects.
Civilian War, the absence of Thor truth
More recently, we attended the return of this character emblematic of the Marvel Universe at the time of Civil War. Indeed, the series Fantastic Four illustrated the fall of Mjolnir on Earth. An individual, whose initial D.B appear on a backpack, manages to raise it. A little later in the middle of a combat between the two camps, Thor appears and attacks the rebels. It transpierces of a flash the body of Goliath (in the past Black Goliath, Bill Foster), and puts in escape the group of Captain America. It will be revealed later that this Thor is a clone created by Tony Stark, Red Richards and Henry Pym.
The return
As announced before the death of the god, Marvel comes to launch a new Thor series. In this series, it proves that Thor, which is more than Asgardien thanks to its alter human ego Don Blake, finds this last in the limbs of nothing. Blake forces it to return to the life, and Thor/Blake thus reappears on Earth. Thor has from now on much more capacities, being from now on the “only god” Asgardien. It thus rebuilds Asgard, city planing with the top of Oklahoma and launches out in the search of other Asgardiens, therefore the gasoline D-was incarnated in certain mortals at the time of the Destruction of the Cycle of Ragnarok.
Leading history
After a few months of hesitation in the pages of Journey into Mystery , Stan Lee starts to develop the mythological universe of this superman, by associating characters directly resulting from the tales and legends to him. The draftsman Jack Kirby, who had left the series between the hands of various draftsmen, takes again the station in a regular way. It with Jack Kirby that one owes the creation of high characters colors like the extraterrestrial Rigelliens colonizers, the knight of Wundagore, and beautiful Sif, warlike is undoubtedly énamourée of Thor. With number 125, Journey into Mystery becomes the Mighty Thor , recognition of the popularity of the character. The stories, increasingly cosmic and epic, must much with the aspect visionary of the drawing of Jack Kirby.
But when this last leaves Marvel to go to work at cd., Stan Lee makes its possible to preserve the breath epic of the series. Helped by the draftsman John Buscema and replaced soon by the scenario writer Gerry Conway, Lee manages to maintain the course. Will follow one another the drawing Rich Buckler, Walt Simonson, Keith Pollard or Greg Larocque, and with the scenario, Len Wein or Roy Thomas. This last will manage to connect the Scandinavian gods to different panthéons put in scene in the Marvel universe, and to explain the " Ragnarok" (the twilight of the Gods) without contradicting neither the legend, nor the continuity of the data base
In 1983, Thor is not any more the success which it was. The draftsman and scenario writer Walt Simonson thus harness themselves with the task, with freehand to start again the sales. It will create on the occasion Beta Ray Bill, extraterrestrial having the same capacities that Thor, will tell a mission commando of the Scandinavian gods in Hell, and will even manage to transform Thor splashes from there in a parody of the Batrachomyomachia of Homère.
Its successors, Tom De Falco with the scenario and Ron Frenz with the drawing, will return to a more traditional formula, directly copied over the Lee/Kirby period. Will follow Jim Starlin and Bruce Zick, which will give a modern version of the thême " Berserker" , then Roy Thomas and M.C. Wyman, which will take again abandoned narrative lines at the time of the preceding passage of the scenario writer. Warren Ellis then William Messner-Loebs will be given the responsability to enclose the " I" volume; series.
It is daN Jurgens which will be in charge of the revival of the title, in 1999, of which it will ensure several tens of numbers as a scenario writer, out of tandem with several draftsmen, of which John Romita Jr, Andy Kubert, Tom Raney or Stuart Immonen.
