Thoré-la-Rochette

Thoré-la-Rochette is a common French, located in the department of Loir-et-Cher and the area Center. Its inhabitants is called Thoréennes and Thoréens.

Geography

Thoré-la-Rochette is located on the valley of the dormouse at 10 km at the west of Vendôme.

History

Thoré-la-Rochette is the fatherland of the Maréchal of Rochambeau which was illustrated at the time of the war of independence of the United States of America, in particular at the time of the victory of Yorktown the October 19th 1781. Its body rests with the cemetery of the commune. Its residence, the castle of Rochambeau is a beautiful residence of XIIIè century.

Castle of Rochambeau

Located along a meander of the Dormouse, the castle of Rochambeau is in the beginning a gentilhommière of XVIe century. Property of Rochambeau, this residence has for famous ancestor the count Jean-Baptiste de Rochambeau, Marshal of France, craftsman of American independence at the sides of George Washington.

Church saint Denis

Dominating the village, the church was rebuilt at the XIXe century on the foundations of a primitive church which probably dated from XIe century and of which there remains only the elegant stone bell-tower of XIIe century classified with the inheritance of the historic buildings.
