History

Thonon-the-baths is built on a site occupied at least since the Gallo-Roman time. Badly known for the top the Middle Ages, its history is very well documented starting from 1270, because of the conservation of the accounts of the lord of the manor comtal of Allinges, in the spring of which the village was before becoming at the beginning of the 14th century the seat of the " mandement".

A middle-class is attested as of the middle of the 13th century and the village (a few hundreds of fires) east girds walls towards the end of the century, including the Bank suburb towards 1290. Stake of the fights between the counts de Savoie and the dolphins of Viennese until in 1343, Thonon becomes then one of the favorite residences of the house of Savoy and attracts many local immigrants or foreigners (Italian, German…). The castle, initially fortress and prison, is shaved and, rebuilt towards 1410, becomes a residence of approval including/understanding of beautiful gardens and the luxurious home, more comfortable than the simple hunting lodge of Feast; one gives to it great festivals which marked the spirits as well as the term of " ripaille" became synonymous in the French language with successful festivals.

Several dignitaries of the court of Savoy are made build around the castle of the private mansions (Ravais family), hotel trade and the trade develops. In 1433, the duke Amédée VIII acquires and parcels out the vine of Small valley, adjacent with the walls of the city, and of which " chaseaux" (pieces to be built) are acquired by the principal families of the local middle-class (current Vallon district). It also supports the restoration of the utility services: mills, furnaces, market, water conveyance. Thonon remains town of court until the end of the 15th century, in spite of the presence more and more prégnante of a popular dispute attested by the Hérésie or the Sorcellerie, cruelly continued starting from 1475, and by the emigration towards Geneva.

In XIVe and XVe centuries, the châtellenie of Allinges-Thonon traditionally forms part of the douaire of the countess, then duchess of Savoy. Three of them particularly associated their name with the area, Bonne of Bourbon, wife of Amédée VI of Savoy, Marie of Burgundy, wife of Amédée VIII of Savoy, and Anne de Lusignan, wife of Louis Ier of Savoy.
