Thomson Orvault

Category: Work The factory of Orvault (Loire-Atlantique), pertaining to the group Thomson-CSF (become Thalès today), tried at the end of the Années 1970 an experiment of original structuring of the working time, by sharing its personnel (after agreement of the personnel and the trade unions) in two teams:

  • a team working 4x9 hours of the Monday to Thursday evening, is 36 hours.

  • a team working 3x9 hours of Friday morning at the Sunday evening, is 36 hours entered, double Sunday being counted.

The Salaire remained that the 40 hours preceding the Restructuration. The difference was compensated by a better profitability of the industrial Capital, which turned now 7 days a week.

Besides in spite of the agreement of all managements and labor (Employers, direction, personnel, Work's council and trade unions), the Factory inspectorate was obliged by its statutes to bring a lawsuit with the factory of Orvault, while recognizing the strange side of this step, and by not doing anything to try to gain it. The important thing was that the forms are respected.

The reorganization was recognized acceptable by the courts, thus creating in France an interesting precedent as regards installation of the Working time.
