The city is served by the Gare of Thomery coming from the Gare de Lyon in Paris.

The culture of the chasselas on walls was an important economic activity of the area, 16th century until the middle of the 20th century. It became anecdotic nowadays, only practiced by some impassioned. The walls with vine on the other hand were registered with the historic buildings in 1993.

The city is the premises of undertaking A.D.R. (for the Applications of the bearing). Founded during the interval wars, this company was specialized in micromechanics and its applications in the fields of the mechanical bearings for aeronautics and other equipment of high technology. Repurchased by the world leader of the bearing, the Swedish group SKF in 1964, it counted to 700 employees in the Années 1980. In 1993, group SKF yielded part of the company to its employees, this part keeping name A.D.R. and continuing its activity of special bearings of utmost precision (gyroscopes, pins) until our days with approximately 50 employees. The part not yielded by SKF, with approximately 300 employees, closed in 2003.

Famous characters

  • Rosa Happiness, animalist painter, lived with By (common become part of Thomery) starting from 1859 where she died in 1899. It had moved into a house of the slope of By where it arranged its workshop and of many spaces for its animals.
  • Adrienne Clostre, compositrice, Grand Prix of Rome in 1949, was born in Thomery on October 9th 1921.
