Thomas from Vio , known as Caietan or Cajétan , cardinal, born in 1469 with Gaète, in Latin Caieta (from where its name), died in 1534, entered the order of the Dominicain S, of which he became general Master, was in charge of several missions by Jules II and Leon X, and obtained in 1519 évêché of Gaëte, with the hat. Sent in Germany like Legate, it tried, without success, to bring back Martin Luther to the catholic faith.
It left:
- of the Comments on the Bible and Aristote ;
- various writings on the ecclesiastical matters, inter alia a Treated authority of the Pope , where it supports the infallibility of sovereign pontiff, and who was censured by the Faculté of Paris.
