Thomas Vanek (born the January 19th 1984 with Baden EIB Wien in Austria) is a player of professional Hockey which plays in the National league of hockey for the Sabers of Buffalo. It was fished out by the Sabers 5th on the whole Repêchage of entry in the LNH 2003; that made of him the Austrian fished out with the more high ranking of the history of the league.

Career

Following a career junior with the Stampede of Sioux Falls of the United States Hockey League , Vanek became a player dominating for the Golden Gopher of the Université of Minnesota, leading the team to the chapters of the goals (31), master keys (31) and points (62) in 2002-03. It gains the university championship (NCAA) with its team and was named MVP Frozen Four , in addition to being named better player of its team for 2003, becoming the first player of first year to obtain this honor. He was the best marker at the first years of the Goldens delicious Gopher since Aaron Broten in 1980 (72 points). He was also the first player of first year to lead the team to the chapter of the points since Mike Antonovich in 1970. He moreover was named recruit of the year in the NCAA, becoming the third player of the Gopher to gain this title.

Vanek was member of the team of Austria to the championship of the world 2004, where it piled up 7 points into 6 matches (2 goals and 5 master keys). For a second consecutive season, Vanek carried out the Goldens delicious Gopher for the goals (26) and the items (51) and finished 5th markers of Division I of the NCAA. It was named better collegial athlete of Twin Cities for 2004.

It passed the Saison LNH 2004-05 with the Americans of Rochester of the American Ligue of hockey, the club-school of the Sabers. It recorded 68 points, which classified it second of the team, 11 points behind Chris Taylor, but it carried out the club for the goals (42) and the goals in numerical superiority (25). It finished with the second rank of the league for the points at the recruits, but led the recruits to the chapter of the goals - in fact, he was the second best striker of all the league.

He meant with the Sabers for three years the September 3rd 2004 and began his career in the LNH in 2005-06. He knew one season impressive recruit, marking 25 times and adding 23 assistances in 81 matches.
