Sir Thomas Stamford Bingley Raffles is a soldier and a British Naturaliste , born the July 6th 1781 off the coasts of Jamaica and dead the July 5th 1826, famous to have founded the town of Singapore.

One is unaware of almost all the parents of Raids, if it is only his/her father, Benjamin Raffles was captain of the vessel Ann on which young person the Raids was born. It starts to work at 14 years like employee with the English Compagnie of the Eastern Indies. In 1805, it is sent to Penang, in Malaysia.

In 1811, Lord Minto, governor-general of the the British Indies, appoints it lieutenant-governor of the island of Java, in what was then the the Indies Dutchwomen then, little time afterwards, governor of Bengkulu to Sumatra. It is the time when the Great Britain then takes the control of the archipelago to the Netherlands in catch with the France of Napoleon.

Raids brings to Java of many reforms: Abolition of slavery and the forced labor, restoration of the temple of Borobudur and other monuments old, semi-autonomous government as well as control on the left. It is also interested in the history of the island and publishes a history of Java ( History off Java ). He was freemason.

The Napoleonean Wars being finished and the Netherlands taking again the control of the island, Raffles returns to England in 1815. It turns over in Southeast Asia only three years to found later, the January 29th 1819, in the island of Temasek at the end of the Malayan Péninsule, a station of trade which will become Singapore. He declares officially the foundation of the city the February 6th of the same year.

Raids takes part in the foundation of the Zoological Society off London and is the first president. He also forms part of the committee which founded the Zoo of London. He is anobli in 1817. Many toponyms of Singapore as well as the famous de luxe hotel, the Raids Hotel , celebrate its memory.

His first wife, as well as the majority of her children, is victim of tropical diseases.

He died in London the day before sound 45e birthday, probably of a brain tumor.
