Thomas Rupert Jones is a geologist and a British paleontologist , born on October 1st 1819 with London and died in 1911.
During its studies in a private school of Ilminster, it starts with is interested in the Géologie by the Fossile S which it finds in abundance in rocks of the Lias. In 1835, he becomes surgeon apprentice with Taunton and supplements its formation with Newbury, in the Berkshire, in 1842. It starts to practice with London until in 1849 where it becomes assisting of the secretary of the geological Société of London.
In 1862, he becomes professor of Géologie to the military royal Académie of Sandhurst. It is devoted to the Microzoaire S fossils and becomes the largest specialist in the Foraminifère S and the Entomostraca of Great Britain.
Jones makes off appear the 2nd edition of Medals Creation (1854), the third edition of Geological Excursions round the Isle off Wight (1854) and the seventh edition of Wonders off Geology (1857) of Gideon Mantell (1790-1852), as well as the 2nd edition of Geology off Sussex (1878) of Frederick Dixon (1799-1849). He becomes member in 1872 of the Royal Society and obtains the Médaille Lyell of the geological Company in 1890.
Jones is also interested during many years in geology of the South Africa. Among its publications, it is necessary to quote has Monograph off the Entomostraca off the Cretaceous Formation off England; In Monograph off the Tertiary Enlomostraca off England; In Monograph off the Fossil Estheriae; In Monograph off the Foraminifera off the Crag with Henry Bowman Brady (1835-1891).
