Thomas Mignot

Thomas Mignot , baron of Lamartinière , born the February 26th 1768, with Machecoul (Loire-Atlantique), died with Bayonne the September 6th 1813, is a soldier French.

He entered as second lieutenant the September 15th 1791 the 32e regiment of infantry, above of Bassigny, which was included/understood in the formation of the 81e half-brigade. He was made lieutenant the May 31st 1792, obtained the rank of captain the September 30th according to, and made the campaigns of 1792, 1793 and year II with the Armée with the Rhine.

The July 19th 1793, with the combat in front of fear Wayest, it made wonders of value to the head of the pomegranates which it ordered, and there was wounded of a shot to the right thigh.

Year III at the year V inclusively, it was used for the armies of the West and the Côtes of the Ocean, under the orders of the general-in-chiefs Hoche and Hédouville. By decree of Thermidor 5 year IV, the executive Directoire raised it with the rank of major, in reward, is it says in its patent, of the good behavior, the zeal and the talents which it had deployed with the Armée with the coasts of the Ocean. Called with the command of a battalion of the 81e half-brigade for the forwarding of Ireland, the 5 brumaire year VI, it embarked, next 24 Thermidor, on the frigate Immortality . It had under its orders the 1e and 3rd battalions of the 81e, with which it took part in three engagements.

In, that which was delivered the 29 vendémiaire year VII, it remained constantly at its station on the quarter-deck, though wounded and losing all-sound blood, and it was made prisoner by the English. Exchanged the 12 ventôse according to, it continued the campaigns of years VII, VIII and IX with the Armée with the West, and was named chief of brigade of the 77 {{E}} of line by decree of the consuls of the 1st nivôse year IX (December 22nd 1800).

Employed in year XI, to the Camp of Bayonne, it passed as colonel the 11 vendémiaire year XII in the 50e regiment of infantry of line, which belonged to the Armée with Batavie; was named member of the Légion of honor the 19 frimaire according to, and accepted the decoration of Officer of the Legion of Honor 25 meadow of the same year (December 25th 1805).

Indicated by the Emperor like member of the electoral college of the Loire-Inférieure, it was in year XIII with the Camp of Montreuil, under the orders of the marshal Ney. Year XIV with 1807, it made the campaigns of Austria, Prussia and Poland with the 3rd division of the 6th body of the Large army. During the countryside of vendémiaire year XIV, with the attack of Ulm, it fought with greatest intrepidity in the fortifications of the place, where it did much evil to the enemy and removed 360 prisoners to him. In this business, where the 50e of line covered glory, it lost 150 men of its regiment.

The Emperor named it commander of the Legion of honor by decree of the 4 nivôse year XIV. The February 10th 1807, following the Battle of Eylau, Lamartinière was high with the Brigadier general rank of and accepted the title of Baron d' Empire the March 19th 1808.

Passed with the Armed with Spain, it made the wars of 1809 with 1813 in the Peninsula and the Portugal. It ordered from Tuy, while the 2nd body went on Braga and Oporto. It there was blocked and obliged to fight during twenty six days. Its garrison consisted of 3.300 men recrus or isolated, of which at least 1.200 were daily in the hospitals; its resources were exhausted; one did not live any more but of flesh of horse and ten ounces corn to the ration. However the Lamartinière general held good and did not let itself discourage, when, the April 10th 1809, a body of 15.000 risen of the Galicia, supported by 5.000 Portuguese attacked it in Tuy. Leaving at once the place, and without worrying about the enormous numerical superiority of the enemy, the Lamartinière general pushed back the attackers, killed to them a great number of men and removed 10 parts of gun to them. The general Heudelet, detached with his division to assist from the garrison from Tuy, arrived in this moment and supplemented the rout of the enemy, who flees and dispersed on all sides.

Appointed chief of the general staff of the Armed with Portugal, by imperial decree of the September 7th 1811, it exerted these important functions with the highest distinction. The July 22nd 1812, to the Battle of Arapyles, after having filled during all the action its duties as chief of staff, it brought back several times to the combat, and very-small distances from the enemy, the troops which it had rejoined, and it encouraged them for its example to defend the positions attacked by the English.

Fact Major general the February 11th 1813, and placed in this quality with the Armed with Portugal the March 24th, it took, next in April, the command of the 6th division, passed to that of 9th, right wing of the Armée with Spain, in July of the same year, and took share with the combat of Cubiry and Irun.

It fought with the brightest value, the August 31st 1813, with the Attaque of the bridge of Berra, where it was seriously wounded, and it died in Bayonne the September 6th according to, following the wounds which it had received with the Passage of Bidassoa.
