Thomas Menino (born on December 27th, 1942) is the mayor of Boston since 1993. It currently carries out its fourth mandate, which finishes in 2009.

It is the first nobody of Italian origin to be elected mayor of the city.

After having sat during nine years at the municipal council, he became mayor to replace Ray Flinn, appointed ambassador of the the United States to the the Vatican, in 1993. He kept his label of mayor by interim for four months, before being elected in November of the same year. He did not have opposition at the time of his re-election in 1997, then largely gained the two following municipal elections, in 2001 (with 76  % of the voices) and in 2005 (adding up 67  % of the voices). At the conclusion of this mandate, he will longest become the mayor remained at the Hotel-of-City (only Kevin White has until now carried out four mandates).

Enough not very present médiatiquement (it is in particular famous for problems of elocution), Thomas Menino is appreciated for his strong attachment at the town of Boston. He was however criticized fortemement in 2004 and 2005 concerning violations of individual freedoms, more particularly of Freedom of expression, following his management of democratic national Convention like his will to prohibit the sale of tee-shirt denouncing the informers of the police force.
