Thomas Jonathan Jackson
Thomas Jonathan Jackson , called Stonewall Jackson , is an American officer in the American Civil War.
Born with Clarksville, Virginia (today Virginia-Western) the 20 or January 21st 1824, the young boy loses his parents very early and is raised by his/her uncle. In 1842, it enters the American military academy of West Point where it receives its military formation. Afterwards, he becomes officer in the Artillerie of the United States. Decorated at the time of the américano-Mexican War, it remains in the armed with the United States until 1851, year during which he becomes professor at the military academy of Virginia with Lexington.
In 1861, before Virginia makes secession, it enters to the service of the States confederated of America and becomes Colonel, then brigadier general. In the First battle of Bull Run, it organizes an obstinate defense and gains its nickname “Stonewall”. In 1862, it orders two divisions in the Vallée of Shenandoah and overcomes several commanders of the Union thanks to his speed and its skilful superiority. Thanks to his victories, the general Robert E. Lee gives him a Army corps with which it takes part in the battles of the Seven Days, second Bull Run, Antietam, Fredericksburg and with the Bataille of Chancellorsville.
In Chancellorsville, exploring the lines of the enemy after having conducted a spectacular attack against the right side of the Army of Potomac, it is wounded seriously by its own soldiers. Its left arm must be amputee and, weakened by the operation, Jackson contracts the Pneumonie because which he dies the May 10th 1863.
