Thomas Jeffery Parker

Thomas Jeffery Parker is a British zoologist , born the October 17th 1850 with London and dead on November 1st 1897 with Warrington.
He is the son of William Kitchen Parker (1823-1890), doctor, zoologist and famous naturalist, and of Elizabeth born Jeffery. His/her father, large specialist in the Comparative anatomy, attends Thomas Henry Huxley (1825-1895). The Thomas young person attends the Clarendon House School then the Université of London where it obtains his Bachelor off Sciences . He enters then to the royal school of the mines where Huxley, defender of the theory darwinienne, sign the Natural history. Huxley inserts it in the royal school in 1872 like demonstrator in Biologie. It Marie with Charlotte Elizabeth Rossell the December 23rd 1874. In 1880, he becomes professor of biology to the Université of Otago in New Zealand where he succeeds Frederick Wollaston Hutton (1836-1905). It remains at this station during seventeen years. Parker, pedagog except par, exert a strong influence its students and make appear several school works as has race off instruction in zootomy (Vertebrata) which appears in 1884 and has text-book off zoology (two volumes) that it signs with William Aitcheson Haswell (1854-1925) in 1897. He is also the conservative of the natural history museum of Otago. Parker studies in particular the avian fauna of New Zealand.
Parker becomes member of the Royal Society in 1888 and of the Société linnéenne of London in 1895. In 1892, the university of London gives him a title of honorary science doctor. Suffering from diabetes, he dies prematurely, at 47 years, five years after having lost his wife, loss of which he was largely affected.
