Thomas Eakins

Thomas Cowperthwaite Eakins , born the July 25th 1844 with Philadelphia and deceased the June 25th 1916 is an American painter.

Raise with the Art schools Jean-Leon Gérôme then of Leon Bonnat between 1866 and 1868. He will travel then in Spain before going back to the United States where he will begin a brilliant career of realistic painter. In love with the optical truth, it will be interested in photography. In 1882 he becomes professor with the Academy of the Art schools of Pennsylvania, a school of Art avant-gardist where one teaches in particular photography… Nearly one hundred years earlier than many schools of Art in the world. In 1886 it loses its post of professor with the academy of Pennsylvania to have revealed the nudity of a male model to a women at the time of a course of anatomy.

His wife, Susan Macdowell Eakins (1851 - 1938), was it also painter.
