Thomas Davidson (May 17th 1817 - October 14th 1885) was a British paleontologist .
Thomas Davidson is born with Edinburgh, his parents have a very great property in the Midlothian. He studies with the Université of Edinburgh, in France, Italy and Suisse. Its knowledge of the languages, the literature and scientists of different country are very useful for him for its research. It is interested quickly in the Natural history
In 1837, under the influence of Leopold von Buch (1774-1853), it concentrates on the study of the Brachiopode S and becomes an authority in this field. Its major work is Monograph off British Fossil Brachiopoda -- Monograph of the British fossil brachiopods -- published by the Company of paleontology of 1850 with 1886. This work includes/understands includes/understands six quartos with more than 200 engravings of the author.
It prepares also an exhaustive report Recent Brachiopoda published by the Société linnéenne of London. He is elected member of the Royal Society in 1857. In 1868 it receives the Médaille Wollaston and in 1870 the Royal Medal.
He dies in Brighton and in its will its collection of recent Brachiopode S and Fossile S bequeaths to the British Museum.
