Thomas Corneille (Rouen, August 20th 1625 - Andelys, December 8th 1709) is a lawyer and Dramatic author French.

Native of Rouen like his brother Pierre, but nineteen years his junior, Thomas Corneille endeavoured all his life to follow the way of his elder. He was, like him, lawyer then Dramatic author. Its Timocrate , inter alia, was an immense success in 1656. He wrote, only or with his brother, forty parts of Théâtre. To the difference of his brother, it applied to all the dramatic kinds of which the part with machines and the opera. Thanks to its three booklets of opera, Psyché , Bellérophon and Médée it is, with Philippe Quinault and Jean Galbert de Campistron, one of the large French librettists of the 17th century. He married the sister of the woman of Pierre and left Rouen for Paris at the same time as him.

Elected with the French Academy in 1685 with the armchair of his/her dead brother the previous year, it was harnessed with a Dictionnaire of the terms of arts and sciences in complement of the dictionary of the Academy (1694) then to a geographical and historical universal Dictionnaire (1708).

Publications

Among his comedies, which all almost are imitated of Spanish, one knows especially the Festin of Pierre (1673).

Its dramatic works are with those of his/her brother; they were also published in share in 1682, 1722, 1738, 5 volumes in-12, etc
