Tholy

Tholy is a common French, located in the department of the the Vosges (88) and the area Lorraine.

Its inhabitants is called Cafrancs and Cafranes.

Geography

The borough was built on the Adret of the valley of the Cleurie, halfway between Saint-Heart and Gérardmer. The point low of the commune is at the confluence of the brook of Pissoire and Cleurie, the culminating point with the locality of the " Large Roches". One reaches directly Épinal by the collar of Bonnefontaine (676 m).

Tholy is cut out in four sectors:

  • the Center Borough
  • Bonnefontaine (as the collar of the same name)
  • Bouvacôte (which makes it possible to join the Top of Early the)
  • the Rain-Brice (which makes it possible to join Gérardmer)

Etymology

  • the name Tholy seems to come from the presence of a workshop of factory of tile in " the Tholy" old man;. Indeed, in local patois the “teuli” appointed the workman tile maker.
  • gentilé the Cafranc date of the 18th century. At this time, a very pious man of Tholy traversed each Sunday ten kilometers to attend the mass with the church of Saint-Heart. The inhabitants of this small town, admiring in front of the courage of this man, offered alcohol glass to him of mirabelle plum. Which followed, the man of Tholy had Sunday not forgotten the gesture of the inhabitants of Saint-Heart and, dice the exit of the mass, invited them to the coffee to offer to them in its turn a drop of mirabelle plum. The inhabitants of Saint-Heart, happy of this gesture, exclaimed in patois: " E breadth bouane houre, E breadth frank Ca! " what means: " Per good hour, it is correct.". And it is from there that the word Cafranc comes.

Economy

The resources of the village come mainly from the Fromagerie Bongrain-Gerard which is the cradle in particular famous " Whim of the Dieux".

History

  • Tholy was set up in parish on December 16th, 1663 by saint Pierre Fourier.
  • In 1669, Didier Virion of Nibles, lord of They-under-Vaudemont, adviser of the duke of Lorraine Charles IV, makes a donation to establish a mission with the current site of Tholy but under the name of “Round of applause of Saint-Joseph”. But, it is only after the French revolution that the commune will adopt the name of “Tholy”.

Of mouths to parish church of the openwork money Tholy of sand, posed in fasce on a gold mountain driving of a forest of nine sinople fir trees planted on a terrace of same. This terrace is charged with two burelles of money, stitching on burelles gold besan in charge of a blossomed tau of azure, accosted of four billets of mouths. The ecu is charged with the frank dextral canton with a gold escutcheon to the band of mouths charged with three alérions of money and with the frank sinistral canton of an escutcheon of mouths to the gold rafter accompanied by six of the same billets, four as a chief ordered out of rafter and two at a peak.
This blazon, particularly charged, is the work of the painter Pierre-Dié Mallet (1895-1976), oblat bénédicain. The ecus are those of Lorraine and the Virion family of Nibles. The pieces of furniture in terrace evoke the cloths bleached on the meadows, the manufacture of tiles and the cheese industry.
