Tholonet

Tholonet ( Lou Toulounet in Of Provence according to the Standard mistralienne and Lo Tolonet according to the traditional Standard) is a common French, located in the department of the Rhone delta and the area Provence-Alp-Coast of Azure. Its inhabitants is called Tholonétiens.

Places and monuments

    • the Château of Tholonet (such as it today is known) was built by Alexandre de Galliffet in the years 1640. This one, which had bought the field with the Jarente family, was president at the Parliament of Aix-en-Provence. Its Louis-François grandson made add a theater for his mistress Emilie de Marignane, the woman of the famous speaker Mirabeau. A sawmill output the marble of Tholonet, more known under the name of Brêche d' Alep. Nowadays, the field is the property of the Société of the Channel of Provence, (SCP).
    • Vestiges of the Aqueduct Roman charged to bring the water of Saint-Antonin to Aix-en-Provence. This channel, of about fifteen kilometers which had a flow close to 80 liters a second, was one of the four serving Aquae Sextiae Salluviorum at the time Roman.
    • Old Windmill, rehabilitated and restored. Today reconverted in place of exposure, it receives painters or sculptors.

    • Paul Cézanne which came to paint in Tholonet (Holy-Victoire, the black castle), frequently lunched at the restaurant Bern (today Cézanne relay).
    • Georges Duby historian of the Moyen-âge (former member of the French Academy) rests in the small cemetery of Tholonet.
    • Jacqueline de Romilly member of the French Academy wrote On the ways of Holy-Victoire , editions of Fallois (2001).
    • Michel Bernascolle published in 2006 with the editions Cheminements Rapegons of Holy-Victoire .
