Thiverval-Oil cake
Thiverval-Oil cake is a common department of the Yvelines, in the area Île-de-France, in France, located at approximately 22 km in the west of Versailles.
The inhabitants are the Thivervalais .
Geography
The commune of Thiverval-Oil cake is in the Plaine of Versailles on a small eminence between the valley of Ru Maldroit (Plaisir, Saint-Germain-of-the-Barn then Beynes) and that of the Ru of Gally (Chavenay then below Davron and Crespières).The commune presents two places inhabited apart 3 km: the village of Thiverval, in the valley of the Ru of Gally, and the hamlet of Oil cake where the complex of AgroParisTech is (in the past agronomic National institute Paris-Oil cake, ex- 3Ecole Nationale Sup3erieure of agronomy of Oil cake). It is a primarily agricultural soil, partially wooded, dedicated to the cereal field crop.
The commune is bordering on Davron to the north-north-east, of Chavenay in the east, Plaisir in the south, Saint-Germain-of-the-Barn in south-west, Beynes in the North-West, Crespières to the north-north-west.
It is served by the secondary road 30 connecting Plaisir to Poissy and the secondary road 119 connecting Chavenay and D30 to Beynes.
On the railway level, the station nearest is that of Plaisir - Oil cake on the line Paris-Montparnasse - Dreux and Paris-Montparnasse - Mantes-the-Pretty.
History
The name of Thiverval would derive from a proper name of Germanic origin , Thiotvar , and Latin suffix , vallis , valley. Oil cake would come from a Latin name of anybody, Grinius .The territory was inhabited as of the prehistoric time. Traces of the time Gallo-Roman E were also found. The two villages of Thiverval and Grignon exist since the Moyen-âge.
The castle of Oil cake is built at the 17th century by Pomponne de Bellièvre. The field is repurchased by the king Charles X, which creates the agronomic royal Institution of Oil cake in 1826.
The commune of Thiverval, gathering the two villages, is authorized to take the name of Thiverval-Oil cake per decree of the October 18th 1952.

- Saint Martin's day Church: church of style Gothic dating from 12th and 13th centuries, restored in 1804 and classified historic building in 1846. It comprises a nave with five spans and three levels of rise, an octagonal bell-tower high on the transept crossing.
