This is Our Youth
' This is Our Youth is a Play of Kenneth Lonergan. Produced originally by The New Group, it was created with the INTAR Theater of New York in October 1996, then thereafter with Douglas Fairbanks Theater in November 1998. Setting in scene per Brokaw Mark, with Rosenthal Mark in the role of Refusals, Mark Ruffalo in that of Warren, and Missy Yager as a Jessica. Later, she was a sharp success with London and was taken again Off- Broadway in 2001.
The part entered the heart of an young generation of actors by his resolutely modern topic and the challenge to present an main issue. Particularly appraisal by many actors of television or cinema eager to take their first steps on scene like Hayden Christensen, Matt Damon, Hake Hanks, or Chris Klein in the role of Refusals, Jake Gyllenhaal, Casey Affleck, Kieran Culkin, and Freddie Prinze Jr. in that of Warren, and Anna Paquin, Summer Phoenix, Alison Lohman, or Heather Burns for Jessica.
From now on, this part is also adapted in French and will be played during 2008. Vincent Torre will be Dennis and Julien Baptist will be Warren. As for Jessica, it will be incarnated by Eve Dufaud.
Summary
The part occurs over two days in the apartment from Ziegler Refusals in Upper West Side from Manhattan in March 1982. Warren Straub, friend of Refusals 19 years old, has just been thrown outside and stole $15,000 to his intractable father, handled linen room. Refusals, smarter and dominating of both, expenditure part of the sum in cocaine, hoping to resell it with profit with one of its young customers. Jessica Goldman, a young coed pychorigide and anxious, unloads and meets Warren who uses the money remaining to allure it.The part explores the eternal problem of adolescence and maturity, during one time hinge where the policy of Raegan returns these characters disabled. Resulting from a medium however easy, they must find their place in a world where the emerged ideals of the Sixties were swallowed by social liberalism and arbitrary capitalism.
For France, the part was brought back in 1992 in order to facilitate complicity with current times (Reagan/Bush even combat) and to give more keys and references to a larger audience.
