Third district of Seine-et-Marne
The third district of Seine-et-Marne is represented in XIIe legislature by Yves Jego, appointed UMP and mayor of Montereau-Fault-Yonne.
Geographical and demographic description
The third district of Seine-et-Marne joins together the north of the agglomeration melunoise and the town of Montereau-Fault-Yonne, and is spread out for that over three districts, that of Melun, Fontaineableau and Provins. To be done, it east composes of the cantons according to:-
Canton of Melun-North: 37.015 inhabitants
- Canton of the Châtelet-in-Brie: 14.618 inhabitants
- Canton of Moret-sur-Loing: 33.226 inhabitants
- Canton of Montereau-Fault-Yonne: 33.646 inhabitants
According to the figures of the census of 1999, the district was then populated of 118.505 inhabitants.
Political description
Composed of two average cities having difficult districts, connected between it by small towns and villages of countryside, the district is with the image of the nation: the right-wing candidate, elected in 2002, had been beaten in 1997. Moreover, the Front National made of the scores partculièrement important there. Thus, in 1993, the left could not take part in the second turn, victim of the high score of the candidate frontist.
History of the results
¹: Elected official with the senate in 1995. By-election on December 10th, 1995, which sees the victory of Pierre Carassus, appointed MDC and mayor of Be worth-the-Pénil.
