Thio is a city located on the east coast of the New Caledonia.

Composed of two parts, Thio Village and Thio Mission, it comprises 13 tribes.

It was the capital of the Nickel starting from 1876, discovered " Garnierite " (overdraft by Garnier) and remains still a high processing site of nickel by the S.N.L. (Le Nickel Company)

Place strong of the independence movement, it knew one period animated in 1984 during the events .
