The thin ( Argyrosomus regius ), or grognor , or courbine , is a Poisson.
It is a fish whose intermediate size is of 50 centimetres with 1 meter but can reach 2 meters for 100 kilograms.
It is also fished in the estuary of the the Gironde in particular, but in the Atlantic Ocean, and, more rarely, in Mediterranean.
Its name, “ grogneur ”, is drawn from the noise which it produces in period of Fraie, while acting on a muscle which makes resound its swim Bladder. This noise is audible since a boat if this one is with the vertical of the bench the thin ones and is separated from him only by a few meters of water.

Description
Spindle-shaped body, slightly flattened on the sides, the profile of back is definitely convex, the practically rectilinear ventral line. The dorsal fin is silver plated. The side line presents a dotted black band which goes until the end of the caudal one. After death the color becomes gray brown on the back and the sides are moire. The eyes are small, the round or pointed muzzle with a large mouth. It has canines very visible.
It emits grondements deaf products by muscular vibrations amplified by the resonance of the swim bladder. It is thus made locate by the fishermen because the seillements get along with ten meters higher. It is not very savage and easily gets caught. The species rarefied much during the last years.

Maximum up to 2 m, 100 kg.
Habitat and biology
It is a generally gregarious, predatory fish coastal especially night. He prefers the sandy funds of the Atlantic coasts but also the rock coasts with holes of vase and sand. It is a semi fish pelagic, carnivorous. It affectionate shellfish; the squids, the cuttlefish, the mules, the sardines, the sprats… It can live about fifteen years.
One at sea finds it North, on the Atlantic coasts as far as Mauritania and in Senegal, in the Mediterranean to the delta of the Nile, at sea of Marmara.
It is located between the isotherms 14° and 23°. It carries out migrations according to the temperatures. 40°% seem to be the acceptable limit of salinity. The reproduction takes place from October at April/May.
The fish grows of almost 15cm per annum during the first 20 months approximately. It would reach the weight of 1kg as of the 3rd year (approximately 53cm). Sexual maturity intervenes around 70cm length.
This fish has a commercial strong potential on the markets Spanish and Italian.
