Thillot

Thillot is a common French, located in the department of the the Vosges and the area Lorraine.

Its inhabitants is called Thillotins.

Geography

Located in the valley of the Moselle, 23 km upstream of Remiremont, at 13 km of Cornimont by the Col of Ménil (621 m) 34 km of Lure by the Col of Crosses (758 m) and 36 km of Thann by the Col of Bussang (731 m), the commune are placed on the road main roads Benelux countries-Basle but the deviation of RN 66 is yet only one project.

History

Thillot was initially only one locality of the commune of Ramonchamp, in front of its name - according to the sources - with the lime under which one had returned justice or with toll with the close Franche-Comté. The city was born by the Imperial Decree from the June 30th 1860 which clearly separated it from the commune bordering.

The history of the city is dominated by a strong industrial tradition: copper mines as of the 16th century, tinplate manufacture starting from 1727, tanneries… In 1871, the textile was established in the valley on the impulse the Alsatian ones fleeing the German annexation. The crisis of the textile caused a brutal fall of the population which was still established with 5114 inhabitants in 1975.
