Thieu

Thieu is a section of the Belgian city of the Rœulx, located in Wallonia in the Province of Hainaut.
It was a common to whole share before the fusion of the communes of 1977.
The locality is crossed by the Thiriau and the Canal of the Center.
Etymology
The name of Thieu finds probably its origin in the word “Tier” (1088) which one finds in the local texts in its forms “Tye” (1119), “Thier” (1146) meaning “place with the hills”.
