Thierry Smits is a Danseur and Belgian choreographer born with Koersel, close to Hasselt (Belgian Limbourg), the January 26th 1963.

After having studied the ballet dancing and modern with Hasselt, Brussels and Paris, he dances during a few years in various companies, whose Plan K directed by Flemish Frederic, and makes the experiment of the cabaret.

In 1990, it presents its first choreography, the Grace of the ladykiller , with the Halles of Schaerbeek in Brussels. Invited with the Festival Montpellier Dances, it very quickly acquires an international repute in the world of the Contemporary dance. It founds the company Thor and connects creation on creation. Since 1996, its company is equipped with a multiannual subsidy structural of the French Communauté of Belgium.

Its spectacles oscillate between pure dance and Dramaturgie, the technical rigor and the gestural creativity being omnipresent. The relations between the sex and crowned occupy a dominating place in its research. With the wire of his choreographies, Thierry Smits explores the tensions which exist between the enjoying body, the body “sex” and the sick body reaches closely and dedicated with disappearance.

Its work was crowned in 1995 by the Prix SACD - Belgium and in 1998 by the price Océ of the Performing arts of the French Community of Belgium.

In 2006, he is member of the jury of the program Dancing one Ice of Flemish television VTM and television Dutchwoman RTL4. During the emission of October 1st, he declares in front of the cameras that the Flemings must vote for the parties of the Tolérance to the communal elections of the October 8th, and not for the Flemish political party which defends of the racist ideas and xenophobe.
