Thibron
Thibrôn (in Greek old Θίϐρων/ Thíbrôn , which means “hot, extreme”) is a Mercenaire Spartan of fourth century BC
Thibrôn is one of the mercenaries recruited by Harpale, the treasurer in escape of Alexandre Large the, towards 325 av. J. - C. After the escape of Harpale of Athens towards the Crete, it assassinates this last and seizes part of the treasure diverted by the indelicate treasurer.
It is called shortly after by exiled Cyrène to restore them in their city according to the edict taken by Alexandre little before his death. It leaves Crete with a troop of approximately 6000 men and tries to create a kingdom in Cyrénaïque. It beats Cyrénéens but is betrayed by its officer Mnasiclès and loses Apollonia like its fleet (323 - 322 av. J. - C.).
Thibrôn then recruits mercenaries in the Peloponnese, occupies Teucheira, beats the inhabitants of Cyrène again and begins the seat of the city. Cyrénéens require of the assistance of new the satrap of Egypt, Ptolémée then is charmed and gets along with Thibrôn. But it is too late and Ophellas intervenes in the name of Ptolémée. Thibrôn is overcome and hung in 322 av. J. - C.
