Thespis

Thespis d' Icare (in Greek: Θέσπις , ° -580 - †?) Poet and Playwright of the ancient Greece, is regarded as the oldest Greek tragedy, and the first Acteur.

In -550 Thespis introduced in Attic a semi-monk kind, semi-arts person where the song and the dance mix. It is about the Dithyrambe. Then imagined towards dividing the chorus and inserting tirades spoken by a character alone, separated from the choreutes. According to the legend, he would have interpreted itself this first role of actor in -534.

It is also said that Thespis passed from city downtown on a carriage (the carriage of Thespis) and that he played the parts of his creation accompanied by one or two actors only. Until the beginning of the 11th century, the expression “to go up on the carriage of Thespis” meant: to embrace the theatrical career .

Starting from the O C under Pisistrate (tyrant of Athens which had seized the power while being pressed on the people) were held contests of tragedies whose topic was the instruction with the role of citizen. The first crowned tragedy was a part of Thespis played by a minority of actors of which Thespis.

During five days of the dramatic authors (the foreigners, Greeks nonAthenian, were allowed) clashed by presenting in one day three Tragédie S and a drama satyric; works being chosen beforehand by the archonte. The archonte chose the main actor (protagonist), the supporting role (deuteragonist), the third role (tritagonist)… Then a drawing lot took place to indicate the order in which the poets chose their troop. This made one witnessed a ceremony (proâgon) of general presentation of the spectacle in Odéon. All the city took part in this event… Moreover that place had the day when the tribute was to be paid!
